It's a mart and probably one of the biggest marts in the country at that, of course it's full of dealers just like every other mart.

Is it true you have to pay to wash out a trailer there?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Dont like the new entry system, the draw is now from 1 to 40 pen, all cattle to be penned by 9:30am.
Fcked up draw system where no matter what number is drawn it counts down to pen number 1. Total balls if you happen to get a high 30`s pen number it means that the odds of your cattle going into the ring early is almost 1 in 40 but you will still have to have the cattle penned at 9:30 and wait till the late afternoon to sell.
I notice the same dealers always get pen numbers in the teens.

When did they change to this? Any reason for the change??

They changed it a few weeks ago, they are also restricting entry into the runner ring to animals less than 6 months old.
I can understand why they did it, their is no entry system into the runner ring, its first come first serve. By having cattle booked in they can facilitate they buyers and shippers which is fine, but they could at least make the entry system fair to the farmer

I wonder why??! Same in our local same dealer in the corner pen. They are unreal you could complain all day about them. The antics of them around the ring just gets me goin. I'll leave it at that!

I forgot to mention it also gets worse, you could have to wait until the dealers have re-entered their cattle for a second time if they haven't sold yet while you sit waiting for hours for your cattle to come in.
Plus if you happen to be unfortunate enough not to have 12-15 month old highly fed bull Weanlens then yours will be pucked and rode by them in the pen. By the time they get to the ring you wont recognize them!!

Was talking to a lad who goes to Sixmilebridge mart. Says its a great mart and dealers don't run the show.

Management seem to favour the buyer rather than the seller alright. The previous manager is a big loss to the place.

    Are you sure of that....

Sixmilebridge is on a Saturday, so handy for the part-time farmer. Weanling ring is small enough, so you wont be standing around long to sell or buy.
As for dealers, they're at every mart. I never had a problem with them. Just bid away and ignore them. Don't let them intimidate you.

Is it not the same in every mart at this stage? If not, it definitely will when these water changes come in!

The one in ballinasloe is timed and you'd want to have four pairs of hands with yard brushes to get any sort of trailer clean within the time!!

Not sure but the girlfriends father had a Charolais bull calf down born in April, 230kg €775, couldn't fault that price for a handy calf to be honest.

At them prices I may aswell sell all the weanlings this year too cause I sure won't get the same kind of money for them as year and a half cattle next year.

I don't think the dealers (wanklers) are as prominent in the marts anymore bar the few farmers that buy and sell more than others but I don't mind them too much tbh.
