Where are you located? Find someone who's decent with either MIG, TIG or Aluminium filer Rod. Should be as good as. Don't try it yourself. Welding Aluminium is pretty difficult. Found that out the hard way.

Was the bike registered with Kona within 3 months of purchase?

Unfortunately, after reading through the warranty it seems that it only applies to the USA and Canada. It says to see your dealer for the specific warranty in your country. What did the Irish dealer say to you?

He seemed to think that it should be a runner as is the case with specialised etc but first time for them dealing with kona? So waiting the past 2 months to hear back! I understood the warranty outlines lite time warranty! Maybe I am wrong. Bought if in uk and seeking replacement through ni dealer. Cheers

Specialized warranty is very good, they will replace very old frames with no issues. Kona are more likely to take condition of the bike etc into consideration.

I had a kona Kula gold that cracked on the way up to the seatpost.

Sent the frame back to wiggle and they replaced it with a new bike right away.

Did they replace the whole bike and components etc they are offering a frame only at cost price of 700 sterling! Find this totally unacceptable!

They offered me a choice of three complete bikes, none of which was on par with the Kona I felt, but it was a good few years old at the time, and I just picked on of them.

i wonder what the legal understanding of a 'lifetime' warranty is - they may argue a 'reasonable lifetime' for the bike, rather than a reasonable lifetime for a person.
if it's the former, it's no better than your statutory rights though.

The Lifetime Warranty states it only applies in the US or Canada, and to check with your authorised dealer in other countries. So legally, the Kona warranty doesn't apply, and you're relying on goodwill unless you have written confirmation of a warranty from where you bought the bike.

I would have thought that a 4 year old bike that has not been used much other than relatively recently would be within reasonable lifetime!

It would also depend on how it was stored and used?

If it's been sitting out in the elements then it's life span will be shortened.

Also I'd imagine you have to register for those life time warranties. If you did then you should be set if not then you'll need to find a local welder.

how do you prove it was only lightly used?
i'd genuinely be interested as to whether kona offer any details on what 'lifetime' constitutes, even in the places they do offer a lifetime warranty, because it may turn out to be nothing more than your statutory rights.

remember that a manufacturer's warranty is meaningless in the face of consumer law - a good must last what would be considered a reasonable length of time for the type of item it is.
however, given that it's a mountain bike, you might have an issue with going to the small claims court with it.

Have you tried going via the shop you bought it off?

Seriously, I've owned a couple of Kona bikes, and never had anything but good experiences dealing with kona. They even answer the phone and talk sizes with you.

The only negative thing I would say about kona is the unusual size their seatpost collar is. 13.8? very hard to find.

Good idea thanks just it's an online retailer in uk so thought it would not be a runner! Will give it a go! Thanks
