    Hi lads

Kinda new here. When it comes to buying used cars what mileage would you consider high? Reason I'm asking is because I'm looking at a 1999 Toyota Glanza turbo at the moment but it has 142,000 miles. Always wanted one of these for a bit of fun.

Apologies to mods if it's in the wrong section.

Its high enough for a Jap import but on the plus side its probably means the mileage on it is genuine :pac:

If the car is clean and you can verify (as best you can with a Jap import) that it has been serviced regularly and looked after then less than 10k miles a year is pretty low tbh. As with any car of that nature I would be getting it looked over properly and fully by someone who really knows what they are looking for. The chances of finding a car like a Glanza that hasnt had the living ****e driven out of it, or that hasnt been poorly modified and maintained, are slim enough.

It's a 15 year old car so that mileage would be just below average for the year, but given it's a Jap import there is a good chance it got a hair cut on the ship over from Japan originally.

I'd be more concerned about it's condition than mileage though, very hard to find a Glanza these days that hasn't seen the wrong side of a ditch at some stage of it's life. A lot of them are modified too beyond recognition.

Cheers for the reply! Ya I have a qualified mechanic that will be coming with me. I see with your saying. Ill be able to tell from the way drives etc. It has a fresh nct which is some bit of piece of mind. Any idea the main things to look out for with a glanza? I'm a bit of the picky type so it'll be a plus to know ha.

This is the facelift model im looking at. In the pictures it looks clean. No dents or scratches on the exterior. Will have to take a close look when I go to view of the crash bars etc but ill leave that to my mechanic. Car in question is lightly modified which is what I like.

have you a link to the particular car you are looking at?

142k miles is nothing on one really. my own has 148k km's on it, but just last night i was reading on the owners club of a member with 290k km's on his car and another i'm aware of with 350k kms on it trouble free. but to last that long they weren't running a load of haphazard mods, they were properly tuned.

    and

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/glanza-nct/7410609

id be wary of the first one because the seller so adamantly states "no grinds from the gearbox". i mean why did he need to point that out so clearly, i smell a rat in that. otherwise it has a few tasty mods on it if that's what your into but it wouldn't be my cuppa, but with a bit of TLC it could be ok.

the second one looks much nicer imo, still has the original decals down the sides which is always good. that said 2750 is steep, it's a lightweight p-sport model by the looks of things. it has no rear wiper, those are manual mirrors (not power fold), it'l have windy windows, no air con and no hi/lo boost button as far as i know.

Never have I come across a glanza with windy windows ha. Price is mental seeing as he paid 2100(vaguely know him) for it. What price would you put on it? What effect has it with no high low turbo button.

yeah the price is a bit sticky but not a million miles away. good condition kouki models do seem to be getting between 2.5 and 3k at the moment.

don't hold me to it, but it does look like a p-sport, just double check with him. no rear wiper and the mirrors you see on that glanza are the same as you would see on an irish starlet so not the power fold ones so those are kind of tell tale signs. if it is a p-sport it will have **** all, no power windows, abs, central locking or anything. they are also in hi-boost mode all the time.

most glanzas came with a hi/ lo boost option which also restricted the car to lo boost in first and second gear, boosting .45psi and .6psi in hi boost. a p-sport is in high boost all the time, but then again i never had mine switched to lo boost and most people remove the switch anyway to run hi boost in first and second gear.

tl;dr. p-sport is poverty spec but or purist spec depending how you view it. worth less imo. but still looks the fresher car of the two.
