    Hey all,

I am looking to floor a section of my attic for storage. Currently there is 2 layers of insulation on it - around 8inches or that. The joints are 4inches deep. Is is ok to squash down insulation and put flooring on it? or whats the best way to floor?

Your insulation will not work as well if you compress it, it's as much about the air trapped between the fibres as the fibres themselves, so it's not ideal.

I guess you can increase the height of the joist with wooden batten or there are some plastic kind attachment for the joist to go over it. then you can put new floor on it.

As noted above, do not compress the insulation - it needs to hold air in order to work.

Are the two layers both 4? If so, remove one. Quick and easy solution. Is there anywhere else in the house or garage that the extra insulation could be used?

If you're going to do that you should use insulated board of equivalent insulation value as the flooring otherwise you're just leaking more heat into the attic.

I would frame out the area you need with 5x2 and lay your floor on the frame.
You may want to roll up your insulation first in-case you compress it then re lay before you lay your flooring
