    Hey all,
Looking to get into an MMO.
I don't really want to pay a monthly fee but don't mind paying an initial charge such as that for Guild Wars 2.

What's considered the best F2P/Non-sub MMO right now?

    Cheers.

Guild Wars 2 and Rift would get my vote as joint best by a mile with Planetside 2 getting an honorable mention.

STO and Neverwinter are ok but the end game of both is just repeatable grinds.

For pve id say rift, has a lot of endgame pve content.
Guild wars 2 is ok but has nothing to do at max level, most got bored and quit very soon.
Neverwinter is also worth a look.

Planetside 2 is awesome, but it isnt an rpg which i think the OP is looking for.

You say MMO, does it necessarily have to be an MMORPG?

There's other options such as World of Tanks and War Thunder that are F2P.

I'm biased, but Rift is a good option, especially now with an expansion on the horizon this year. The f2p model is fair and you can get to and play end game content without paying.

World of Tanks or Planetside 2 unless as Spear mentioned it has to be an MMORPG for you.

TERA ONLINE was a lot of fun. I still like it's combat system the most out of all mmorpgs.

It really depends on what type of game you want to play. The only down side with F2P MMO's is that it takes an age to download them only to find you may not like them.

I'm quite fond of Neverwinter Online and Star Trek Online as they give players the ability to create their own quests, which gives a lot more longevity when other games just make you grind when you get to the top.

I thought The Secret World was pretty cool in how it set out quests, some of which meant you'd have to browse the internet for answers and one even had me downloading an app to translate Morse code. The combat isn't great though, but I forgave that because of the mission.

And I'd probably give an honorable mention to both Lord Of The Rings Online and Age Of Conan. LOTRO is probably only really good if you love Lord of The Rings. Most MMORPG players wouldn't think it's the best, but I enjoyed it. And Age of Conan is better than most people will let on. These two fell to the wayside as newer games came about and Conan in particular suffered from a lack of content after a pretty amazing starting section. But over the years plenty has been added and the player base are all die hard fans who are incredibly friendly and will help you out in anyway they can.

Oh, and if you just want something casual to play with a few mates from time to time, DC Universe is fun. It's a fairly shallow game, but it's got great pick up and playability for short spurts. And it's fun fighting alongside Superman and Batman.

As I said, it really does depend on what you want to play. You're more than likely going to end up spending ages downloading a variety to find what you like best.

War thunder is great. Wot gets old after a while.

I find with any mmo you tend to burn out but with these at least the rounds are short. War thunder arcade mode is great fun and using your full garage works well for the game mode. If you want a more serious challange you can then move up to realistic.

I can only speak for Guild Wars 2 and Planetside, both of which are excellent. Well worth getting into.
