Is it true all first year science students at nuig have to take maths?

I had intended on taking comp science, biology and chem as my three optional modules along with my core module but I found out it may need a rethink now.

I had no intention of taking Maths at all because i hate it but now I've to end up dropping one of my preferred three in favour of math.

    Is it really true?

Yes it's true. I don't think there's a single course in either the College of Science or the College of Engineering that doesn't require maths in first year.

To be fair, you're going to be studying science; maths is of course going to be an integral part it.

cheers for the reply.. that's a pity, i love chem and physics but one will have to go now. funny how that it was never mentioned. i find that a bit weird.. it's split into pass and honours though right?

i'll just give it the flick in 2nd year

Is there not a selection of 6 or 8 different groups of 3 or 4 subjects and you have to pick one of those selections?
Pretty sure that was the story last time I was looking at it. That's a while ago now though.

i think so for undenom science but im in a denom degree...
earth/ocean science and then choose three from maths, applied maths, chem, physics, biology, comp science etc....

Hardly the case if you have to take maths though.. they should have just said choose two after the core eos module and what is apparently a core math module...

Tis all a bit confusing at this stage
