Do you need a permit to conduct a "student survey" in ireland on a public street? I need to conduct a market research survey as part of my degree and I was wondering if there are any laws on this in Ireland. I'm doing a survey on Vodafone and plan to stand outside stores on Grafton St and Henry St. I plan to stand out in the middle of the street, not directly outside the premises. Would this be okay and legal? I've tried googling it but can't find anything on it.

Can you get a degree nowadays for a conducting a survey?

Ask your lecturer - they may have a policy on it.

imho there are far too many going around with clip boards asking inane questions

I plan to stand out in the middle of the street, not directly outside the premises.

It's perfectly legal but standing in Grafton St.with a clipboard, everyone will think you're a chugger and literally give you a wide berth.

Even if you get someone's attention, 'I'm doing a survey' won't necessarily get you a positive or neutral reaction, it's an opening line that's grossly abused on the doorsteps in suburbia. A few months ago a young lady knocked on my door and claimed to be 'doing a survey' on crime in my area. Like hell she was, she was selling Phonewatch!

I'm not actually planning to do this. I'm putting the survey online and getting responses there. Only my course lecturer hates this and wants the class to do it themselves face-to-face. I'm just going to tell a little lie and say I did!

I just wanted to know if it was legal to stand in the street and do this, just so I can fill it in on my assignment.
