Monarch are working on a plan to reposition themselves as a short haul carrier, with an order for up to 30 737's pending. The BBC and UK media have been covering the story in recent days.

They will also be retiring their 3 757's, and from comments made by the CEO, the future of 2 A330-200's is also in doubt as they seek to exit long haul operations.

Can't help thinking that 2 x 330's and 3 757's would be a good fit for EI right now if the price was right.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Would be perfect for EI if the engines were compatible. I'm sure the MO A330's are in decent condition too.

    EDIT:

Monarch's 757s are too old, Rolls and no winglets (retrofittable, at a cost) so won't be going green. The A330s are also Rollers and EI uses GE so they're not too likely either.

    There's that idea nixed!!!

Overall however I can't see this 'repositioning' working. They have received cash injections of over £100M in the last 5 years and they still make a loss of £65M in 2013!!! Their brand is holiday charters, not LCC. And they will be competing with Easy, Jet2 and probably FR too. Sounds to me like its a sad beginning of the end for such a long running company.
