VAT on Exports

Hi all,

Took a quick look at other threads and couldn't see a mention.

I have a question regarding VAT on exports to the UK.

We are a small online business producing a product in Ireland and selling both here and now into the UK.

I have asked around to see if I have to pay VAT on my retail sales into the UK but am getting conflicting advice.

Can anybody clarify? I couldn't see the info I am looking for in the sticky but I haven't had a litre of coffee yet so could just have missed it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you are not VAT registered generally you do not pay VAT. If you are selling into the UK you might be oblidged to register for and account for UK VAT

Thanks. Forgot to mention we are VAT registered in Ireland. In a nutshell it looks like we do pay VAT in Ireland for UK sales until such time as we exceed £70,000 in UK sales and from then onwards we must pay VAT in the UK.

Hope to need to pay UK VAT soon though

If the customer is registered for VAT then zero rate applies.

If the customer is not registered then Irish VAT applies and you don't have to register until T/O hits £70k as you have said http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vat/leaflets/distance-sales-eu.html
