Can anyone help me?, I'm looking to buy a new car and there seems to be a problem with the gear stick. I took it for a test drive and when I put the car into gear the car starts to vibrate. Can anyone tell me if its a major problem to fix or if its nothing at all??

What car is it? Year, make, model, engine, gearbox(manual or auto?)

If in doubt walk away to be honest. But we need more info to tell you.

It's a good deal because there is an issue with the car. Save yourself the headache and take a look at something else

Lol. It's being sold cheap because of this problem, if it was a simple fix would you not think the garage would do it themselves and charge more for the car?

I think you need to clarify things.

Do you mean that if you put your foot on the clutch and then select a gear the car vibrates while sitting stationary?

Or do you mean the car vibrates when moving forward in first gear?

What do you mean by vibrate, is the whole car shaking on its wheels or just the steering wheel vibrating in your hands?

    It's not from a garage .

Its very hard to know what this particular cause is, could be worn engine mountings or could be something much worse.

If I was you I wouldn't take the risk, the chance of it biting you are too high. At the very least I would have it checked out, but do not take a chance on buying without knowing what the fault is.

Unless your very hands on technical walk away from any car with an obvious or even possible major fault.. This is your chance to get the best motor around on whatever your budget is, while you may have to compromise on make/model/year don't compromise on the quality of what your buying..

And to answer your question... NO, nobody posting here will be able to tell you if its a big problem, it may indeed just vibrate away for years without developing into anything or it may die a death before you get home from buying it !!

You'd be mad to proceed with this one. It's not a good deal if it's going to end up fooked. If you knew the cars, and were handy with a set of spanners by all means assess and proceed if you think its fixable, but I wouldn't in your position.
