I've been following the musings of Jon Kabat-Zinn on YouTube for some time and find them eye-opening. I'm wondering would anybody have recommendations for a weekend or evening course on mindfulness which would help somebody build up meditation skills along those lines? (I wouldn't be into one of those courses where you sit around and pour your heart out to a room full of total strangers).

Loads of these courses around Dublin, and Ireland in general. The 8 week courses on Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, seem to be quite popular at the minute.

Also, there is a great deal of other courses available in this area, Activelink would be useful for searching. Think the price is about 400ish for the above courses. I'm not a big fan, maybe out of ignorance, so others may have better feedback on the quality and such

the Dublin Buddhist Centre does a six week mindfulness course. it costs about 150 euro iirc and it's three hour per evening. I found it an excellent introduction, and wouldn't let the Buddhist tag put you off.

I'd recommend having a look around for Tony Bates. Very nice guy and he performs his courses in more of a class-style format so you wouldn't have to worry too much about the group therapy with strangers bit. He writes quite frequently for the Irish Times on mental illness and he runs a youth mental-health thing called "Head Strong".
