    Hi All,

I'm looking to replace a shed door old one is 50 years old. I've tried quite a few builder providers (+ local DIY + woodies), most have 32" shed doors, but none have a 28" one.

They are about €60, so don't mind cutting one down to size, its just a bit of a pain and would prefer to get a 28" one if possible.

    thanks.

Would you consider buying T&G floorboards and making one yourself?

I don't believe you will get a 28 inch Door as it's not a standard size. Generally Doors come in 30 inch internal and 32 inch external.
You can Take a 1 inch slip off each side of the 32 or add a slip to the 28 inch Doors. a matter of choice.

Yea i've done that before quite a few years ago, I'm getting lazy in my old age :-)

I'd be worried would T&G warp over time, it probably wouldn't if I had enough bracing glued/screwed on the inside.

I thought house doors come in 28" widths, must be just 30 & 32 inch. It would even be better to just cut 2" off a 30 inch door.

Most providers will have something like this:-

Yes you could just take 2'' off of one side, But you would be left with two uneven stiles. Just tack a 2 x 1 lath on and run the skill saw along 5 minutes max to do both sides.

Thanks guys. The other thing is the height of the door is just 6 foot, so I'd need to trim the bottom/top also.

I can get a 5.4m & 4.2m lengths of 144mm T&G flooring. 5 x 144mm = 720mm, so just a little bit above the 712 width. I think the frame will take a 720mm door. Also if the 5.4m is cut into 3 it will give me roughly 3 x 6 foot lengths. Works out @ €20 for both. Some 3x2 for the back and it would be all sorted.

With the amount of cutting / modifications to an existing door, it would be just as easy to build one, so will probably go down that route. Also works out at 1/3 of the price.

    Thanks again

You could also use the T&G for the back braces. I did one across the top, centre and bottom; and put diagonal between each of these. Job done with the same wood and a strong crosspiece for the bolt and hinges.
