Danske bank closing my current account. Loan is ok thankfully as I wouldn't get as good an interest rate anywhere and also it was a signed contract. Probably switching to Bank of Ireland more for location tban anything else.
My question is do any of you use their agri-chequebook they suggesting I use? Are they worth the extra expense or just use 'standard' one and fill in the stub? Or am I missing something?

We have mortgage with danske as well. We are looking at the minute for a bank to take on the loan.
Parents haven't used a cheque book here in yrs. I'd prefer we had one. Easy to pay lads when they leave the yard

Find Cheques handy, but are they not supposed to be a thing of the past in the near future? or is that just bad rumour?

Are they the one with the card that goes under the two sheets of paper so you are left with a copy?

If so, avoid. Forget to put the card in a couple of times and the book is screwed.

I have the AIB cheque book that duplicates the cheque kn the next page . It doesn't transfer great and you still have to write in the details again for what the cheque was used for . Its not a big advantage .

Wouldn't be in rush to change mortgage/loan.B. of I. quoted me rate nearly twice that of Danske. Also the way loan repayments are calculated you pay a lot of interest relative to the principal in the early years

    Bogmanboss,
The difference is the agri cheque has two pages, the second one gives you a carbon copy of the original. So you write a cheque to 'A cow called Daisy' for fifty thousand euro you have copy for your records.

    Farrell,
Asked that, they say it on the cards but say it be a couple of years yet. It mean less work and human contact. As it is they want you to lodge by machine in bank etc

Thanks for that, for myself it's the cost to make & lodge a cheque is the downside, while convenience of there & then is advantage.
What about our older folk, cheque is the main payment type for them, lots don't have / use cards as most stories they hear is the fraud associated

The agri cheque book is a better job if you write your cheques with a ball point pen you wont having any problems knowing who the cheque is written out to unless you cant read your own written.
The cheque books with stubs are useless things the date and name of the payee and what it was for can easily forgotten to be written in then you have problems!!
Cheques are handy to have paying some for doing a few jobs or buying silage or straw so when they leave the yard there paid!

I never write a cheque without filling the stub. What's the point otherwise?

I prefer the one with the stub. The disadvantage of the carbon one as Kovu, if you misplace the blocking card you end up with mixed details. Cheque book is very bulky cannot fold in half and stick in pocket. I am good to enter details on stubs and put personnel on any cheque stubs that are not for farm. Also carbons can get damaged if thrown arounf the front of van/car/jeep. You will find as well if filling out a cheque with out hard surface underneath details may not be clear.

Yep cheques meant to be gone by 2016. It's all going to be pay by mobile phone. Not going to be as easy and takes a ritual and physical payment which I always liked away.,
