Tax Credit Query

A simple one for someone I'm sure!

My wife is taking unpaid parental for the rest of this year and some of next year.
As far as I know we are assessed separately for taxation purposes.

Should we get assessed as a couple or will my wife's unused credits for this year and next all carry forward until she gets paid again?

For this year you can get reviewed as a joint couple after the end of the year and any unused credits will be allocated against your income for the year generating a refund.

Depending on how long your wife is going to be off work next year you may wish to change to joint assessment for 2015 so you can take advantage of the extra credits while she's off.
