Hi guys,i have upc tv in my front room, and its cable feed is from the attic behind the plasterboard walls . I also have a sat dish with a quad lnb, which i watch in my bedroom. Could i use a diplexer in the attic to join the sat signal with the upc signal, and hopefully the coax in the front room would then have both signals from which i would use another diplexer to separate them.(ps The tv i have has a built in sat tuner ,so i can choose the source i want to use ie. atv or dvt,so maybe one diplexer in the attic is enough)?

Are you a UPC analogue or digital subscriber?

A splitter/combiner will be required at both ends or at the TV end a splitter wallplate instead of the standalone splitter.

Isn't the cable owned by UPC? You would need to ask their permission to do this. I suspect their answer would be no.

    Behind the plasterboard, no.

Yes the houses were built pre-cabled for tv . So i have the basic upc which i think is analog. I should get a diplexer in the attic and a wall plate at the tv,thanks.

Just ensure that the combiner covers the full UPC frequency range i.e. 45-860MHz or 0-860MHz.

The UPC analogue channels are in the range 170-580MHz.

p.s can i use an aerial(uhf) with the same diplexer to combine rte digital from the aerial and upc analog into the same cable(forget about the sat dish at the minute).

This was covered on another thread recently - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057264081

You'll require another combiner before the sat/terrestrial combiner, any additional splitters etc. will introduce loss into the signal which could affect the UPC analogue signal more than the Saorview signal.
