Firstly I don't know how my other half managed it as the nozzle doesn't fit.
she put 10 euros worth of diesel in to a 1.2 petrol polo.

The car seized up down the road as there was no fuel in the tank when she put the 10 euros in.

    whats the best procedure?
get it towed to a garage and drained or fill up with petrol and hopefully it mixes and starts

    thanks

Diesel in a petrol car is the safer of the two possible fuelling screwups. Drain the tank and fuel system, refill to the brim with petrol and you should be fine. You might need new spark plugs if you're unlucky. The car most likely stopped because it can't burn diesel well enough to provide power.
