Got this message (although in Dutch "Motor system service vereist) on the way to work in my 2005 V50.

Currently has 327,000 km on the clock.

Seemed to be down a fair bit on power also?

I have to drive home from work later (128km) and was wondering is it safe to drive with this message ?

Anything in particular I can check ? Is there a way to reset it ?

Pretty much a catch all message on the Volvo's - same as an EML light on most cars.

Had that one the wife's XC60 for a few weeks, and it turned out to be just a bit too much oil (Volvo dealer drained and reset the light), but that wasn't effecting the performance at all.

As far as I'm aware, it can't be reset without hooking up to diagnostics, and even then, most generic readers won't work with the Volvo system.

I was advised (before we took it to the Volvo dealer) to see if we could get the P codes from a generic scanner, and see what info that gave us.

Purely 'cos it worked on ours, check the oil level, but doubt it's that.

Got this on my old S40 just before the DPF packed in. Car went into limp home mode (limited power) and eventually didn't want to drive. As R.O.R said though, it's a generic ECU message so you really need to code read where the exact problem lies.

Jesus .. just checked the oil and its at the Half way mark.

Come to think of it this happened after I had to brake extremely hard to avoid crashing into some loola in a micra that went straight from the Slip road to the overtaking late at 50km/h
