Audi A4 TDI

    I got an 2002 A4 that was lightly hit on the front, the car braking lights are now stuck on and the only way to put them off is disconnect the lead from battery,

    anyone able to advise

    Possibly brake switch, the brake switch can be easily dislodged if the brake pedal was pulled back sharply... The best way to check is to pull the brake pedal back lightly and slowly and check does brake lights go off! if they do 'go off', well then you know that the brake switch works but has been 'dislodged'... An easy fix... Anyway check that and get back to us. I'm assuming that's your problem, there are a couple of other scenarios.... P.s... Any issues with losing and gaining power?

    I was thinking more along the lines of front end impact, driver was probably standing on the brakes, brake light switch is stuck in so brake lights are constantly on.

    OP take out the brake light switch and have a look at it, 5 min job and very cheap part from a main dealer.

    ok will check tomorrow and yes there is some issue with power, on starting up there is no power whatsoever for 10 -20 seconds then ease off the pedal and then back on and away she goes then ok

    Brake light switch is a reverse switch, in 'non use' position, switch is constantly closed, when brakes are applied a similar action is applied to brake switch!! meaning trigger follows flow of pedal, ... When you press brake pedal you also push other end of 'brake pedal' away from switch...

    Yes sounds like switch, power problems and brake bulbs on = engine computer brain thinks brakes have been applied.
