Heating Advice

Purchased an old bungalow in December and need some heating advice please.
Heating was oil run by Stanley Cooker which I have now got rid of as it was extremely uneconomical to run as it was only 46% efficiency and not practical for cooking especially in Summertime.
House is old cottage 60 years old with extension 30 years old. Single glazed windows which wee cannot afford to replace until 2/3 years time.
    Sq footage is 1342.
I'm not sure whether to go for modern condensing oil boiler or switch to calor gas which would have to be tank installed in garden.
The fireplace is closed up and we have to get a non boiler stove installed in the next 3 weeks ass we are totally without heating at the moment.
Can anyone give me advice re choosing oil or gas I want a economical installation and to run as we don't have any savings left so things are very tight.
If we end up going with oil heating I will get a bottle gas cooker.
Note there is 7 double rads and 2 single size rads.
    Thanks

Impossible to say without seeing job. No idea of labour involved, so our prices could be way off. Id say call a good local plumber for advice, it's free.
Or tell us what area your in and we might be able to help.

    50/50
I perfer oil due to reliability and long life.
    Others perfer gas.
Calor is more expensive than natural gas.

I'd go with gas and zoning your heating into 3 zones ( living area, bedrooms and hot water ). I prefer the modulation capabilities of gas over oil and this works particularly well when the system is zoned. Plus, you can't steal gas from the tank!!

also arent the NG or LGP boilers far cheaper than oil? they are also far cleaner and without the stink that comes from oil. The gas boiler can heat instant unlimited water on demand too!

My dad is German and when doing up our house over 20 years ago, simply put in a NG boiler, it heats the rads and also instant and unlimited hot water for the taps, the newer boilers have dmh i.e taps priority... There are also no tanks in the house at all i.e. immersion or in the attic...

What your thinking of is a combi boiler that does both heating and instant hot water

    Thanks for all the advice.
In terms of gas as I live in the country there is no main gas to connect to so it would be the tank which I think is LPG? Not sure am waiting for a calor rep to call me to come assess
