Watch out when using Amazon.co.uk

Got a fright today when I saw €100 taken from bank account and thought I'd been scammed .
Rang the Bank and discovered that while making a purchase of value €15 , I clicked on a subscription to receive ''free delivery ''
Rang Amazon and they will refund immediately , so this is just a heads up to watch what you click on .

This is email from Amazon :
I've checked your account and found that the charge of GBP 79.00 relates to Amazon Prime. When you placed an order on the 15 July 2014, you chose the following delivery option: “One-Day Delivery with a free trial of Amazon Prime (1 business day)”.

While you weren't charged at sign-up, having your billing information on file allows your membership to be upgraded to a paid membership plan for your own convenience once the trial period ends.

As you didn’t cancel your membership once the trial period ended, our system automatically charged you the annual subscription fee for Amazon Prime, GBP 79.00.

However, our records indicate that you haven't used your Amazon Prime membership, so it doesn’t seem that the Amazon Prime service is something you’d benefit from.

I’ve now cancelled your Amazon Prime membership and I’ve also requested a refund of GBP 79.00 for the membership fee

Or perhaps read the small print first? If it's too good to be true, it usually is. :pac:

It was accepted by amazon that I clicked on the subscription accidentally .

Because they have great customer service and refund people who 'accidentally' click on something they should know about. Y'know, 'user error'.

You can review your order details before you submit anyway.

    Says it right here.

After your free trial, Prime is just £79/year. You can cancel your membership at any time.

This subscription is a hidden charge and I checked all account history and this subscription was nowhere to be seen .

So once again I warn all online shoppers to watch out if using Amazon.co.uk , as one click can cost you a €100 .

It will benefit some regular shoppers , but otherwise be careful .

    No it's not.

On the home page of amazon.co.uk
Eligible customers can start a 30-day free trial now.

Notice the "30 day free trial bit." It's then up to the consumer to contact and terminate the subscription (and to also investigate what Amazon Prime actually is).

If, as a consumer, you're asked to trial a new service of course it's up to you to read the terms and conditions.

    Its not hidden at all,
Also you didn't check very far "Your Account > Manage Your Prime Membership" allows you to manage it.

The details of it clearly say you'll be charged at the end of the trial unless you cancel, it says this several times during sign up and also you get a e-mail once signed up to the trial.

During the trial period you can set prime to not charge you at the end of the trial at ANY time, instead it will simply cancel.

But I suppose its easier to blame others for your mistake ;)

Right lads , its okay - to err is human

I was wrong again , it was only a 30 day free trial .

Stupid of me not to realise this , and read the terms and conditions .

    Once bitten twice shy .

Would agree though that was great Amazon service , as they were so easy to contact and rang me back immediately .

Ebay could learn a lesson or two from them

    Just a heads up:

Check the exchange rates used by the cc or Paypal which ever you used.
My cc company has used different rates for both transactions.

Amazon Prime combined with Parcel Motel is a winning combination :)

I don't use it as much as I probably should, but it's definitely worth it for me
