AIB Aptitude Test

    Hi all,

I know that there is already a similar thread on this somewhere but none of them answered my specific question.

    So here goes...

    Intro

Basically, I applied for the Corporate Banking Grad position and got selected for an aptitude test in which they promptly notified me that I had passed. Great !!

    Present Day

A near month has passed now and I know that another person got interviewed for the position that passed the same test on the same date as me nearly two weeks ago now.

As such, I am becoming rather frustrated with AIB at the moment as it cost me the bones of €100 to travel to their HQ in Ballsbridge to sit the 'pointless' aptitude test when I haven't really a €100 to spend. However, taking this into account and that I passed the test, I am surprised and rather angry that they haven't gotten back to with confirmation of an interview or at least have the decency to email me with a generic PFO email e.g. I regret to inform you etc. etc. After all, I reached their criteria so far Dont I Deserve an Interview at this stage??

I have rung the company twice now asking for where I stand and have gotten the same answer on both occasions which was we should have answer by the end of the week or early next week indicating to me that Garth Brooks' 'Tomorrow Never Comes' must be blared out across entire factory floor via their intercom.

Therefore, I am probably asking a rather stupid question here as to whether I can safely cross myself out of ever hearing from them with an interview date and time?? Anyone else have similar experiences of passing the test and not even getting an interview from them??? Or how long did you have to wait to hear back??

Sorry for this but I'd really love to work in the industry and work towards a QFA in the near future, but after this BS, I don't think AIB is the best place to start.

    Rant Over

I did that test a while back, was the only aptitude test I didn't do well in but they got back in a few days to say how it went.

It's hard to know in your case without timeframes to see if you should give it more time or not!

Definitely giving up on hearing from AIB now...

What an ignorant shower of pr*cks

Ah well lets just hope its a blessing in disguise

They're very bad for getting back to people, even with application stage PFOs. Sometimes you have to go to the account to check your status and even that can take months.

Ah well thats the way it goes sometimes

I did the aptitude test for a different position and they the rang me the next day to tell me I had an interview the following day. Four weeks passed before I heard anything and I had given up hope. I then got a call to say I would start in four more weeks.

It takes them 2 months to go from aptitude/interview stage to hiring somebody. People blame the unemployment rate on a lack of jobs which is the obvious reason but I am convinced it's to do with the low standard of HR departments in this country. The first thing any interviewer will say is relax be yourself and then in contradiction to that they follow a script and look for buzzwords. I haven't been interviewed in another country but I really doubt it's this bad

It does depend if they want you ASAP well and good and if they dont they do sweet FA to tell you where you stand with them

That is what I meant. The feeling of being left in limbo. I've heard of people turning down one job because they were confident of getting the other only to end up never hearing from them so they miss out on the two.

How such a well recognised Banking institution can operate with such a pathetic HR department is beyond me

I have an Aptitude test for a Branch Banking role with AIB next Friday. Anyone got some tips on how to prepare?
I asked the girl about timeframe and she said it would all be sorted within a few weeks

Practise the tests online. They give you various booklets and you're given time to complete various sections in the booklet. Can be tricky enough so lots of preparation. Found some of the questions seemed obvious but I think it's to catch you out. Arrive in plenty of time, parking is a nightmare in the area.

Where can they be found online? Will be using public transport so parking isn't an issue

Well done and good luck in the aptitude test on Friday!

I'm sure I applied for a similar role as well at the start of August and actually just checked there online my application says new application (next step) and it says the exact same for a corporate banking graduate role I applied for too. :(

I only applied last Thursday! My status says psychometric.

    Fair play to ya!

I'd say my application is a no go at this stage so because I did apply for another role with AIB a while back and received a notification nearly the next day saying I was unsuccessful.

Trying to be an optimist maybe I might hear something yet.

    Grain Silo Test
Just read the questions carefuly a lot of the info is there to try a put you off only some of it is relevant to answer the question

For one part you are given a bar chat with rain fall for the year and showing how its goes up down or the same with the level of rain fall. Just read the bar chart in the question and check it against the other bar chart to to tell if that amount of rain fall will + - or = the amount of grain in the store.

Another part you just add the grades of grain together and see if it + - or = the origional value of grain.

Another part shows a pie chart showing the grade of grain. There are 3 types of grain and then a higher quality of each grain. You have to match the pie chart to the correct one (grain Pie chart) to tell you in what type of grain it is and then you have to determine the grade of the grain.

Bring a watch because threre was no clocks in the room they give you 45 mins

Did this aptitude test in Dublin last Friday, 4 people outside afterwards questioned it's relevance and asked around about what was the point of it. One person worked in a bank for a few years and never had to do this test.

Also more than one booklet had a good few answers marked in with pencil, mine was and there were others. So the on the day the test has no credibility since the staff wouldn't even notice the error could have got some new ones made up so nobody cheats and gets through to the next stage.

Still didn't get to the next stage, 2nd attempt to gain a gig off them, after wasting 30 odd euro to travel to D4 for it.
