    So here's my story:

I done two year of a three year course in LYIT and in these two years I recieved a grant from the VEC which meant I had my fees paid or and got a monthly grant too. I then decided that I didn't like my course, it wasn't for me and wasn't what I thought i was basically and so after failing second year I decided to take a year out to decide what I wanted to do. After talking to the head of my department I picked a different course in the same department that I thought would be more suited to me but was then told that I could go straight into second year in this course because of the content I covered in the previous course. Now I have been told that I will have to pay my Fees (over three grand) and will not receive a grant because basically the government have already paid for me to do second year. I have also enquired about gettin Back to Education Allowance as I am 23 now and have been on Part Time dole all year. The girl in the social welfare office told me that I hadn't clocked enough days on the dole to qualify for this but I'm sure I have. What I want to know now is does anyone have any advice for me now as I know if I go back to college without a grant and they take my part time dole off me I won't be able to afford to live on the wages I am on a the minute. Is there any oher options that Im not aware off or am I missing something?

The important thing to remember is you have to be 23 by the first january of the year you want to start studying to be allowed the BTEA.

This means if you were not 23 by the 1st of January 2014 you will not qualify. I know, it's dumb.

You also need to clock up 234 days of signed on unemployment to qualify (As far as I remember the first 3 days you are signed on do not count so really it is 237 days)

Now, if you do end up qualifying for the BTEA you will still have to pay your registration fee as the BTEA does not cover it.

It's an unfortunate situation you are in OP and if it were me I would be looking for a loan from the bank or your credit union.

    Good luck
