Running route in/around Midleton?

    Hey folks,

I had some success here asking a similar question for Galway, so I figure I should ask again for my next weekend destination...

I'm due to be in Cork in a few days want to get a long (14 mile) run in while I'm there.

I'll be in the Midleton area, though will have the car so can take a trip to somewhere nearby if it suits better.

I don't mind if it's a long loop, a ~7 mile run that I can double up on, or even a 4-5 mile loop that I can do a few laps of... what I am trying to avoid is narrow backroads where I risk getting a smack of a car (which there seem to be a lot of around there), or roads with a lot of busy crossing points.

Thanks in advance for any pointers!

Bit outside of midleton, maybe 25 minutes away, the blackrock loop is about 6miles but can be extended to 7 quite easily. nice safe off road route. This is essentially the route

There's a nice loop from Midleton to Carrigtwhill and back that would have you in and around that distance. They're back roads, but plenty wide enough for running and very quiet with regards to traffic so you'll have no issues on that front.

There's also a number of organised runs from Marathon down to 5k this Sunday based around Midleton if you fancied running as part of a group - http://endurancechallenge.ie/ - get yourself a nice tech t-shirt for your troubles as well as donating towards a great cause!

Thanks for that - that could be an option.

Am only there until Saturday so the Sunday run isn't a... erm.. runner for me!

The Midleton 5ml course starts near the hotel in the town and a profile can be found here:

The Ballintotis 4m race is another nice quiet route. 5min drive from Midleton. Just park at the church and leave the water. Profile and course is here:
    http://munsterraceroutes.blogspot.ie/2013/01/cork005.html
If you drive to the village of Saleen just another 5mins from Midleton there is a very quiet road alongside the coast that will bring you along by East Ferry and will give you 5mls out and 5mls back.
Another option is Glenbower woods in Killeagh (~12min drive) that has a nice 4ml loop or Ballycotton is also close if you wanted to run the Ballycotton 10 route and repeat the 3m-7m section to hit 14mls.
As stated above the back road from Carrigtwohill to Midleton is also ideal and would give you 10-14 depending on what end of the village in Carrigtwohill you turn for home.
    Enjoy!
