My parents are moving back to Ireland and im a little unsure on what they need to do for tax purposes.

They were both born in Ireland but moved to the UK over 30 years ago.

They are both in retirement now and in receipt of UK pensions.

They have sold their home and are looking at purchasing a property back in Ireland to retire. They have been told they need to register for tax to be able to purchase a house?

If thats correct can someone please advice what it is they actually need to do to be able to purchase a house?

    Many THanks.

    For the house purchase ---
Are you sure they were not told that they needed PPS numbers to purchase a house?

Solicitor can do this for them ; or they can do it themselves

If its just that they need a pps number and if they lived in Ireland during or after 1979 then they will already have one. A trip to their local social welfare office with their id should be able to turn them up.
