Pump/overflow (?) making clicking noise

    Hey guys, this might be totally normal but want to double check this. We have what I presume is the overflow pump for our water supply (from a well). Last year we had to replace the black box on it as we kept losing water pressure.

    Anyway, I've noticed every 30 seconds it makes a loud clicking noise. In the intervals between clicks the pressure rises from 30psi to 50psi, clicks, then goes back to 30 and climbs up again. Not sure if this is normal and just ignore it?

    Picture attached :)

    The click is the pump kicking in, the pressure increases, reachs pressure, knocks off, pressure drops down, starts again, etc etc.
    The problem is either;
    1. a leak on the pipework after the pump, turn off the lever valve, if the pressure gauge does not drop, the leak is on that (house)side.
    2. If the pressure drops with the valve off, it is probally the non return valve on the submersible pump

    Thank you. Either way then the clicking is indicative of a problem?

    The clicking in itself isn't indicative of a problem, because when there is a certain amount of water usage, this cuts in the pump. The clicking is only a problem when it happens as you describe when there is NO known water usage.

    Ah ok, I understand. Thank you both.

    Ugh, this morning we stopped getting water from the well (or something between source and tap). A guy is coming out to look at it but advises the pump might be fried. If that's the case any advise on what I should expect to spend on a new pump or where I could get one?

    Edit: looks like we have a deep well submersible pump

    Most of these have a thermal safety cutout, to prevent damage.
    A burnt out capicator is common also, rarely is the pump need replacing
