Would anybody have experiences of the BA (Hons) Psychology course? What were the pros and cons of it? What does it not have that other similar degree courses would have? Were there many people in your class? How is it regarded in terms of jobs or going on to do a PhD? Thanks.

I did their H-dip course part time a few years ago, as far as I understand their BA is quite similar. DBS has the following points in their favour:
    - location
    - cost
    - good IT facilities
    - pretty good, and quite dedicated lecturers

I think in terms of prestige, it wouldn't rank on the same level as say Trinity or UCD, but it is PSI accredited and as such is quite well regarded. They do Masters programmes also and can facilitate PHD study (I think) in conjunction with suitably accredited university.

Like I say, the lecturers are quite dedicated and I always felt they had interest in our career progression, and gave us lots and lots of tips and advice, and towards our finish we were certainly presented with numerous options for further study and career progression.

There also seems to be some kind of link up with Trinity, and those that were interested were strongly encouraged to apply for TCD's Masters in counselling psychology as a further study option, so I think that is a distinct possibility for you if it's your cup of tea.

I wouldn't dwell on the negatives, since I found the whole experience overall to be quite rewarding, if gruelling. The library seemed quite limited at times, and it was difficult to get access to certain papers and journals (if at all possible). Also the culture of DBS sometimes subverts academic interests to the running of the business, but I guess this is par for the course with private institutions.

Hope this helps, and for what its worth it is a tremendously rewarding area of study. If DBS is what is convenient to you to pursue it I would highly recommend it!
