    hey all,

Have been watching twd for the last couple of months and have got up to the start of season 4...
a few things have been bugging me though about the programme....but the biggest one is about Michonne...

When she approached the jail with the baby formula she was invisible to the other walkers because she had walker blood all over her, rick even saw her with them..... why hasnt this been mentioned in the numerous episodes since?... its a glaring thing to overlook...

apologies if this has been asked before!

Well thats the reason she had the 2 walkers on chains (Her brother and husband I think they were) was to avoid detection by walkers.

I would imagine most of them wouldnt cover themselves in blood etc for fear of risk of infection from the blood.

They are all infected, they already know this!

not sure when it came to light but the fact that it wasnt even mentioned by anyone after it happened is glaring... I dunno it seems like the makers just wanted to wipe that it ever happened...

No sure what the question is exactly.

In season one Rick and Glen hid themselves from Walkers by covering themselves in Walker blood and guts.

Was Michone not just doing the same when approaching the jail?

I dont remember Rick and Glen doing that in Season 1, i must go back and check...

The question was that if they knew they could go about unnoticed by the walkers if they covered themselves in walker blood then why would do leave the jail without doing so when on errands?... It would make things a hell of a lot safer for them and it would seem a pretty obvious thing for them to do if they knew it worked.... there just didnt seem to be any attention paid to it after michonne entered the jail....

I supposed because its absolutely rank. God knows what kind of bacterial / parasitical infections you could get, staph etc.

Also they did not know everyone was infected until right before or just when they arrived in the prison if I remember correctly (open to correction on that). Most people thought a Walker bite was what caused the disease to spread, so logically you would not cover yourself in infected blood unless you absolutely had too.

I think it was season 3 in the prison when glenn got sick that they figured out everyone was infected.

In season 1 the group arrive at the CDC in Atlanta. The only surviving member of staff is Edwin Jenner (a nod to Edward Jenner). When leaving he whispers something into Rick's ear.

In season 2 Shane discovers two walkers in police officer uniforms that haven't been bitten. Rick explains the mystery of their infection as been caused by scratch marks, a lie.

At the end of season 2 Rick reveals to the group what Jenner told him, that they are all infected.

Maggie hides using walker blood and playing dead in second half of season 4.
    Properly other examples as well.

It's not just walker blood, they also have to act like walkers, which wouldn't be practical when they go on supply runs. They want to get in and out as fast as possible and shuffling like a walker would seriously slow them down. Plus they would have to do an awful lot of washing when they got back and that would eat into their water reserves and be time consuming. Covering yourself in walker guts is a last resort in a desperate situation.

Wrong. They knew way before Glenn got sick.

Doctor Jenner told rick at the CDC at the end of season 1 that they were all infected. He didn't want to believe it but confirmed it for himself in season 2 when he kept seeing people turned even though they weren't bitten. (the cops in the episode "18 Miles out" for example). Shane also turns when stabbed by Rick.

Rick tells the group at the end of season 2. They all know. The only members of the group who didn't know by the start of season 3 were Michonne and Andrea.

I think what was implied in previous posts, by "they" and "most". Is that the majority of people did not know they were infected. The probable behaviour patterns of the group around walkers and corpses would not have changed.

Even knowing everyone is infected, there are loads of other health reasons why they would not camouflage themselves in rotting corpse on a regular basis, if it can be avoided. Imagine any scratch on your body getting severely infected with limited antibiotics. I know people who have gotten blood poisoning and septic shock from training on dirty gym mats. So I don't even want to imagine what decaying flesh is riddled with.

It may have just been a plot device that the writers used in a couple of episodes for a specific reason, and moved on from.

The fact that none of the characters mentions the fact that they could hide themselves in a herd of walkers by smearing themselves in walker-goo (to go on supply runs, etc.), or nobody warns anybody AGAINST it (for whatever reason, hygiene, infection etc.) would suggest to me that the writers aren't interested in using this plot device at the moment. It might come into play again, but they obviously (to my mind) don't want the cast using it as a default method of avoiding walkers, after all, fighting off walkers is a big part of the plot, right? :)

...and judging by last night's premiere, the writers decided to drag out the ol' pretend-to-be-a-walker scenario one more time....

Looks like it worked out well for them!! :)
