    Interesting.

Although looking at the map here it looks like they don't have a VPN server in the UK.

So you probably can't get the BBC Player/English content to work over the VPN.

there is a UK server - Hampshire which i am currently connected to :)

Yes, it does the UK just great. I have just popped it on my ipad - it works a treat. Iplayer works fine and an advert for itv player has just popped up on boards. So even boards think I'm in the uk.

    I was charged €14.68

Less than a fiver a year.

    Damn good deal......

Thanks OP and others who replied to my queries.

Pulled the trigger on this one, for $19 you can't go wrong, even if it just lets the missus watch BBC player on her iPad.

I'll just have to watch out in 3 years for any recurring charges at full price!

Their linux app looks like it just supports Intel x386 chips, so I probably can't install it on my NAS drive directly.

PS3 and Xbox dosn't have VPN capability but you may need to check if your router (wifi) does. if it is, then anything that is connected to the wifi is connected to the VPN.

i just bought it this morning and working like a charm on my phone. i will set it up later on my tablet, laptop and router.

Just signed up for the 10 day trial to see what it's like. It says the trial has unlimited bandwidth, but I'm getting significantly slower speeds while connected.

    Not connected:
    Ping - 28
    Down - 30 Mbps
    Up - 8 Mbps

    Connected:
    Ping - 122
    Down - 8 Mbps
    Up - 5 Mbps

    Anyone else have that problem?

I have tested through my phone at the moment and here are the results:

    Not connected:
    Ping - 92
    Down - 7.11 Mbps
    Up - 1.60 Mbps

    Connected:
    Ping - 76
    Down - 7.56 Mbps
    Up - 1.30 Mbps

    seems alright to me

Thanks OP, I also got a license code but I am using another service at the moment which is good for a few more months. Does anybody know if there is a time limit to use the license code?

reading through the comments from the offer - one of the reps said "Licenses will expire after 60 days so you'll need to redeem within that period"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,628 ✭✭✭barry181091

Great offer OP! Was using CyberGhost before this and they are great too, this price is unbeatable though.

UPDATE: The android app is seamless. Connected to Hampshire server and got ~30Mbps down, from ~35 native.

Can you set this up on your router? Any instructions on how to do it?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,723 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Bought it and installed and far from impressed, slows connection down far too much even with the Uk server selected :(

For some reason speeds are pretty close to normal now so scratch that.

Just reading the comments in the StackSocial thread here..

do I have to use your client or can I use the stock OpenVPN GUI?

Alla Kapelnytska • 5 days ago
Yes, you do. You can only access to VPN Unlimited via appropriate application.

"Alla" seems to be responding to all the tech support questions on the thread so I assume she worked there.

So you probably cannot use a standard OpenVPN client.

Do you allow the use of torrents and file-sharing traffic on all of your VPN Unlimited servers?

The primary goal of VPN Unlimited is not to download torrents, but to offer online security. There are limited cases, when our technical team had to decrease the connection speed because of the torrenting. VPN Unlimited is not oriented to be used widely for torrenting and file-sharing purposes only, but we believe that your online 100% guaranteed safety is our top priority and our customers’ top priority as well.

    My setup (ADSL) is this:

    Phone -> Modem -> Homeplugs through house -> Bridge -> TV/Xbox/Freesat PVR

I take it that if I want the Freesat PVR to use the UK VPN (for iPlayer etc), I need to configure the Modem?
Or do I configure the PVR network settings?

    None it seems.
I'm at work and haven't tried anything out yet, but at first glance it looks like they only support Windows, a PC running Linux, Android and iPhone.

No direct support for the router, eg running DD-WRT with OpenVPN,
no ARM chip version of their application so it won't run on a NAS box or Raspberry Pi.

Might run on one of those Android TV dongles though I imagine.

Got this today, don't really have a big use for it but one thing was being able to use skygo when outside the UK and Ireland. However I've been trying it with skygo this evening and itv etc still won't play (they are UK geolocked) when going through the UK server which probably means nothing will work when outside the UK/Ireland.

Edit: unless it's the fact it's an Irish account rather then location.

Where is the "offers" area where i have to paste the licence code?
    Never mind found it !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,167 ✭✭✭messinkiapina

I'm having terrible problems with this. I can connect with the android app but it's slows my connection down horribly, and doesn't seem to allow torrents at all, I've tried several different servers. Using my laptop I can't even connect to a server! My cyberghost (which is about to expire soon) works flawlessly. Not happy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,167 ✭✭✭messinkiapina

Seems that if I try connecting with the windows app on my laptop, my router has a hissy fit. It not only kills the internet connection on my laptop, but on my tablet too?! It's like the desktop app is messing up my router or something? Anyone got a clue what's happening there?

Signed up for this, it may come handy someday.

Downside - it blocks torrents, speed is on the slow side.

    Plus side - It works.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,015 ✭✭✭CreepingDeath

Hmmm... the shine has gone off this bargain alert now that I'm trying it.

Old Android tablet running 2.3.1 - Incompatible
Old iPad 1 running iOS 5.1.1 - incompatible
Old HTC Desire HD Phone - incompatible
    Router level support - no
Linux on ARM chipset - no

So if you're not running IOS 6+, and probably later versions of Android, then the apps will refuse to even install.

    Very poor device support.

    No torrents....

    Pants!!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,167 ✭✭✭messinkiapina

It is pants. Really slow and no torrents. I wish I'd waited for another cyberghost deal.

Does cyberghost allow connection to the torrent sites that Eircom block?
Do VPN services generally allow access to torrent sites via Eircom?
I have never used one of these VPN/Proxy services.

    Thanks.
