    Hi guys,
Have a fridge freezer here. The fan is working in the fridge but it is not cooling. She defrosted it a few days ago and it has been happening since then. The freezer is working fine as far as i can tell. Compressor sounds like its running but is getting very hot. i Have it switched off to let it cool down.
    Any quick fix solutions?

your description is a bit vague regarding which type of fridge freezer you have but assuming it is not an American type unit, if you had to defrost it(regular half and half type) because of ice build up in the fridge section almost guaranteed it has a refrigerant/gas leak. it will run continuous if down in gas

Hi Red Ace, its a Belling fridge freezer, just your normal fridge freezer, not american.
No ice build up in fridge section, just a routine defrost of the freezer. But since she turned it back on again, the freezer is working fine, and the fan in the fridge is working but its not chilling. The compressor is very hot but seems like its running. Could it be the relay?

once the compressor motor is running its definitely not relay or stat for that matter, without seeing it, it has the symptoms of a gas leak which basically is the end of it. Check the condenser in the back of the unit (gridded pipework) it needs to be dust free and see if it is hot warm or cool and let us know, is that the unit with the bevelled door edges?

Just thought Id piggyback on this thread rather than starting a new one. I have a Indesit fridge freezer -approx 50/50 and while the freezer is working fine the fridge isn't cooling as much as it should do. I stuck a wee thermometer into it and I'm getting readings of approx 9 - 10 degrees C. Adjusting the thermostat doesn't appear to have any effect on it and its been turned up to it's max for some time now.

Any ideas on a quick fix or is the old thing banjaxed?

Yes, the bevelled door one. The grill thing at the back is just room temperature really. Not hot or cold

Hi guys , I would be almost certain that both units have the same issue both down in gas due to a leak, when a fridge gets an internal leak in the pipework it then hasn't enough of refrigerant/gas to fill the coils thus not being able to bring down the temp which results in continuous running of the compressor all due to crap quality material being used, d gerrys seem to be the only ones making fairly decent ones nowadays

I defrosted my 50/50 Indesit fridge freezer last weekend and it is not working at all now when plugged in.
Would defrosting have triggered this problem? I pulled it out and gave behind it a clean when defrosting it. Bought in 2009. Neither fridge nor freezer works but motor runs when plugged in.
Keeping pints of milk in bowls of water sucks.
