    Hi all,

a friend of mine has a 08 BMW 320d. She looks after it well and to date has had all the servicing done at a main dealers, however that is getting a bit too costly and she is looking a good non main dealer garage to get it serviced in.

She is in the Bandon area but is willing to travel (used to get it serviced in Kearys in Little island Cork).

Anyone out there the is noted for looking after BMW's at a reasonable price?

Anyone out there she should avoid?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

MMW in the city are good. My usual garage is O'Learys in ballincollig. It's a mini specialist but they have all the a gear for BMW.

My e60 had a service pack when bought in 2008 but has a complete history from MMW afterwards. I've heard if these in BMW circles over the years.

If you need numbers for either i'll send them on. Should be easy enough to find online though.

+1 for Ger O Leary in Ballincollig, great man, especially for Minis.
Ardfallen are known BMW specialists in Cork, by the Kinsale Road Rbout. My usual mechanic is Brian Powell but have switched to O learys now for price and customer service.

Before going elsewhere it might be worth checking the cost of a service with the main dealer. Check on BMW.ie. There are special offers on for 3 Series... Still may not be as good as Indy but worth checking first imop.

Murphy Motor Works is where I brought the 325 for a check over when I got it. Steve has all the BMW certs up on the walls so knows his stuff

Service is cheap, they get you in the door and then tell you all the 'problems' with your car. Ever since i went to an independent my servicing bills stayed the same but my repair bills dropped significantly. Strangely enough my car started to run better and better the longer i kept it out of BMW's hands.

I would say, if the oil service prices are good with main dealer then go there.
If they find other things wrong then get the report, you do not have to get them done there.
Let them tell what they found and then take it to an Indy if you are so inclined.

Normally what they find either doesn't have to be done or they try to charge you for a replacement of an expensive item when only a cheap item needs to be replaced.

Why in gods name would you want to support con artists like that?

Think of it this way. If the oil service cost is reasonable then you get your service history book stampe, so you retain your BMW service history. This is worthwhile.
You also get the "Aer Lingus" diagnostics but you can then get the "Ryan Air" repair with an Indy.So it is a win both ways.
I am not connected with any dealer, just a Beemer owner.

My indy has BMW level diagnostic software and does a better job of diagnosing my car. The guys there are experienced mechanics, not young inexperienced "mechanics" who can't problem solve.

I've had nothing but bad and expensive experiences with BMW, and nothing but good value and experiences from indy's.

Also i disagree with your comparison. An indy is like paying for are lingus (good value, good service) whereas BMW is like paying for concorde and actually getting ryanair.

Good choice although i'd still consider O'Leary's in Ballincollig. Would be closer :)

She went to them Friday, very happy with the service and the price, she said Mark was a pure gent to deal with.
