    Hello,
I am asking this question on behalf of a mate of mine coming from the US, going into halls this year,
Is he allowed to buy a mini fridge to put in his own room, one that is less than 3 feet tall and complies with the power usage regs. It would just be for keeping fruit and drinks cool, that he does not really want to share.

    Thanks

A friend of mine stayed in Halls during first year and he had a typical 'under the kitchen counter'-style fridge in his room. As far as I know no one had any issues with it, should be fine.

You're not allowed have a fridge or freezer in your room. (No idea why, it's not exactly a fire hazard.)

However, I was in Halls for two years and I had a freezer in my room the whole time. You only have to worry when they do the room inspections three times a year.

You should be able to conceal it in the wardrobe or under the desk. If you're room is very obviously clean and tidy, they won't go very far into your room. If it's in your wardrobe, they aren't allowed to open the door to look inside.

It's better if you're in your room during the inspection. They'll barely glance in then, and you might be even able to get away with posters on the wall.

One of my friends had a fridge in his room last year and didn't get in any bother. I wouldn't worry about it.
