cutting bounds hedges

    just wondering what is the general thoughts with cutting the top of hedges and ditches .i have land rented from an elderly gent and he prefers to let hedges grow high but he has an akward neighbour who cuts the bounds hedges down low which the elderly man dislikes.can he stop the neighbour from cutting the tops of the hedges as there bounds ditches. this man just likes his privacey . maybe this is the wrong section please move if it is thanks

    You need to establish who owns the land the hedge is on. If for example the hedge is on the elderly man's lands then the neighbour can only cut off branches that overhang the neighbours lands. If the hedge is on the neighbours lands, then the decision as to the height of the hedge is the neighbours. If the latter is the case then the elderly man should plant a hedge on his property.
