Design on my house started in February 2012. Do I need a a Psdp now? I have a feeling I don't because of when the design process started.

Also, if I run the build as a self build do I need a Pscs? Can I appoint myself as the Pscs? What does the Pscs need to do? Does the project need a safety file because of when the design started?

Yes you need to appoint if (a) there is more than one contractor, (b) there is a particular risk, (c) the work lasts more than 30 days or more than 500 person days

have you appointed a certifier (chartered arch/eng) under the new building control regs? has the self-build route been accepted by them?

Axiomatic really. If you need to ask so many questions about the role of PSCS then you need to appoint one who can answer them.

    Hi all Self builders,
I am not sure if this is the correct forum for this question, so please re-direct me if needed.

I am in a position of being self builder, on a renovation/extension project that needs multiple contractor/tradesmen types and will last 6 months, Is there anything stopping me appointing myself as a PSDP and PSCS and execute those roles from a work quality and safety point of view.
Or what options are open to me to get the role of PSDP and PSCS executed for a selfbuilder.
    any advice appreciated.

    Hi BryanF,
    thanks for response.
I have been on hsa.ie, read the publications for Homeowner and COntractors-Proj-SUpervisors guides, and the responsibilities are not small.

But I am wondering how other self builder are executing this activity?
    Handling PSDP/PSCS them selves?
Getting Engineer to carry out PSDP?
Do I get another professional to carry out PSCS on site? Get a professional to advise me during construction phase?

I have moved from single Builder path to Selfbuild path due to builder quotes over our budget. NOw I am in the middle of the commencement notice period and and trying to get this PSCS/PSDP decided on.

    thanks.

Get whoever you are using to certify the build to act as these roles.
If anything goes wrong, a judge will ask who the person was and what made him competent to carry out that role. OP, based on your posts, you are not competent to carry out that role, I mean no disrespect but competency comes from qualifications, experience and training over time.

Ask your engineer or architect to act into these roles.
