    Just a quick hub/wheel question.

I'm running a nine speed casette on Shimano R501 wheels.

Can they be upgraded to work with an 11speed groupset? Or is it uneconomical to bother?

    Cheers

    David.

As far as I know, for Shimano-manufactured wheels (as opposed to just compatible ones from Mavic or the likes) you need to get a specific 11-speed compatible wheel/freehub. I don't think the R501s are among them, and it wouldn't be worth just replacing the freehub if that were possible.

I had a similar problem with 8 speed to 11 speed. I could not get an 11 speed freehub body for shimano wheels. So to save buying another wheel, i got it rebuilt with an ultegra 11 speed hub.

The 105 hub is now out. Its a bit heavier but a good bit cheaper.
