    Hi,
My Computer 2014 Build running Windows 7 64 Bit,
I built it myself, it's an Asus H87M-E motherboard and an i5 4570s,
everything has been good and running everything i wanted it to until just lately it stopped installing the automatic updates, it's downloading them but failing to install them.
So now every time i turn the PC on it tries to install the updates, fails, then shuts down and restarts again, I'm building up a backlog of updates
any ideas what the problem is ?

    Thanks

Generally, when I come across a problem like this, its usually down to a corrupted update download.

I disable the windows update service from services.msc. Then I browse to C - Windows - Softwaredistribution folder and rename it to softwaredistribution.old.

Then re-enable the windows update service in services.msc.

This creates a new softwaredistribution folder and downloads the updates again...

    Hi,
I tried that what you said then downloaded the updates again, when they were complete i was prompted to restart windows
but then on restart it said "Failure to configure" and reverted to the previous settings.

Most likely caused by a previously corrupted update. Best thing to do is to perform a 'clean boot' and run windows update. Then when updates are applied undo the 'clean boot' changes.

Disable your antivirus scanner before trying your updates again.

The Clean boot worked and i now have all the updates installed so thanks for the advice.

I now have to find out what was stopping the updates from installing.

That's excellent information, I just browsed on this thread but this has helped me fix an update problem on my old laptop where it would just sit on "installing updates" on startup.
