Best time of year to spread ground limestone

Just wondering when is the best time of year to spread ground limestone, I'm just after taking a cut of silage of land, would an average of 3 tons per acre be enough ? Thanks.

have a search around on here, I think the recommended max would be the 2ton to the acre.
Spring or autumn would be best... plenty of water to wash it in...!
