NR Valve Rattling

    Hi All

Hopefully someone might be able to shed some light on this. Have a boiler stove and oil burner system. Whenever either the stove or oil pump cut in I get a banging noise from pipework, I've traced this banging to a NR valve on the feed pipe from expansion tank in attic, just after the gate valve. I asked the plumber who originally installed the stove why this valve was there, he said the system was inclined to vent back up the feed pipe as opposed to the open vent and he put the valve in to stop this so system would vent properly. Any suggestions to get the air out of system properly and get rid of this nuisance rattle? Would an auto air vent be of any benefit?
