OK, looking in to a field of thistles here. I have absolutely no clue what I have got myself in to. I bought this box to rid myself of Sky. I swapped over the two feeds from the Sky box and have rigged a Saorview aerial to the AA. But I simply can't figure out how the whole thing works! Do I re-use my Sky viewing card in the Alien? Sorry, its just way above my head. Any total dummy guides available?

    Thank you

Ask in the Amiko Alien threads. This is the thread if your box is running Enigma software

Or this one if your box is running the default Spark software

can be a little daunting at first
Put your Sly card away you wont be needing it ever again

As same ol has suggested head over to the dedicated amiko thread and you will be sorted soon enough :-)

There are video guides for this box on freetv.ie. Just click on the box and scroll down to specs. There's a tab with video guides that take you through the set up in easy stages. Sorry I can't put a link up as I am new here and have no idea of what is allowed.

Chances are your box came preloaded with Enigma 2 or Spark.

Sounds like you'd benefit from a simpler interface so lets load up the newest version of Spark.
    Visit here http://www.amikostb.com/?q=product&id=153
Click on the Download Tab & select AMIKO_ALIEN2_1.2.74_app.rar, this will then copy the files to your PC.

Next learn how to extract the files & install it from USB by downloading the instructions you'll also find in this download tab.
    It's called "howto_ENG_Upgrade_Spark_on_Amiko_Alien_Series_v130610a.pdf"

If all that goes well you'll have Spark running on your box, next scan in the terrestrial stations (helps if you know your frequencies), learn how to sort & delete these stations then progress to scanning Astra 28.2.

Handy videos here under Spark Videos http://www.freetv.ie/amiko-alien-2.html

Can someone explain the function of the two loop connections on the rear of the box.
    Thanks

Only used if sending the signal onto another box I'd guess

AFAIK they have been around since year dot but are if very limited use in practice as you are restricted to the same group of transponders that the input is watching.
