I think Newegg distribute from the US at the moment so you would be liable for outside EU import tax on product and postage. I believe they have plans to open a warehouse/distribution in the EU but they have been silent about this for months.

This AnandTech article describes the way the UK site has been working for the past while, the import duties etc are calculated and charged upfront.

Not super clear if this is included in the listed price or not, but judging by the way you have to select shipping destination while just browsing ,I'd say it fairly likely is accounted for.

    It's not, unfortunately.

When shopping at Newegg, it will calculate taxes based on your ZIP code, which can be added in your basket.

In this case, the 4770 comes out at €296. That's with €10 delivery.

About time. Just wonder how it's taken them so long, and even after it has launched, they don't really have European distribution sorted out? Seems a bit messy, and there's currently no real reason for anybody to wait for a shipment from the US when European shops are offering equal/better prices currently.

Sure it can only get better!

Shipping isnt the real problem, its VAT and duty. All in it'll be ~24% on top of the total cost inc shipping. More expensive and will take longer so nobody will bother.

Not to mention if you have a warranty issue, if you had to ship something back to the US.

Never imported anything, I thought VAT didn't apply to non-EU sellers?

It specifically applies to them for anything over €22. VAT is charged at source normally within the EU, its included in the price. Non EU is hit for VAT and duty on landing here(Dublin Airport).

Say the item is €50 + €10 shipping.
Add €12.50 for VAT + €X duty where applicable
AND add a handling fee to AnPost or UPS etc of €6-10

That means your item cost you €80 or so, but a quarter went in charges. Hard to be competitive that way.

Ah. The US doesn't have tax on imports from the EU, someone told me it should work the same the other way around. :o

    has anyone used this?
If they could work out cheaper shipping, it would be one of the best things that could happen to us :D
I just did a build on it, which came out about 130e cheaper and with much faster components.

I'd imagine it wouldn't be worth the hassle. If something goes wrong outside of the 30 day returns period, I've heard that newegg are horrible to deal with (You have to return stuff to the manufacture in the US)

I almost fell for that trap a while back, keep in mind that Newegg often do not include various taxes in the price until you calculate and add it to your shipping.
