Laptop for work/casual gaming

Hey! Looking for some advice on buying a new laptop, hope someone could point me in the right direction!

I'm starting a PhD in a few weeks and want something high performance that I can work on; I generally don't need to run any majorly taxing programs for work but would like my laptop to remain fast for work related stuff for at least 3 years. I'm also a casual gamer so would be looking for something with good graphics capability and a decent processor, but I'm aware laptops are not the best machines for gaming so not expecting anything amazing! I use windows so I expect to be looking at something running windows 8.

Portability is not a huge factor for me but obviously the lighter the better. Would be looking for around a 15.6" screen.

My budget is ideally €800, could splash a bit more if it was really worth it.

Had a look at this and it seems to fit what I need, any thoughts? (Not committed on buying from here as I'm sure it can be for cheaper elsewhere, just where I saw it first)

    Thanks for any input!

Check out PC Specialist. You can custom create a laptop there, and they offer good value on gaming orientated laptops as well as options for full HD screens, etc. Pc World are dreadful value for the higher end market or those interested in something with gaming capability. Amazon is also a good place to check out, as well.
