Garage Conversion & Planning Permission

I understand that planning permission is not required for an extension of less than 40sq metres. Does anyone know if I do a rear extension of less than 40 sq metres and also convert my garage (to living space) will converting the garage bring me over the 40sq metre limit or is it excluded? Thks

Sorry, assume the rear extension will be 30 sq m and the garage conversion 15 sq m, total = 45sqm

We did this a few years ago, garage conversion and extension.
The total on ours came to 39 sq mt so we didn't need planning, there are also limits in terms of the remaining garden space and all extension are cumulative, so if there a previous extension on the house this also counts as part of the limit (40 sq mt).

I think it depends on the original plans, did they provide for a garage conversion?

have the same situation myself. Looking to put an extension to to the garage. Mine will be under the 40SQM when both are measured.
