I know this is a random question but does every route 20 (Dub to Galway) use the double decker buses or do some times use the normal large single storey bus.

Travelled twice on the 20/X20 this month and it was a single decker coach on both occasions. One of these.

    Hope this information is helpful.

There is only one LE (double decker) allocated to route 20

There are three SE's (these are tri-axle single deckers, higher up than a regular coach). They are all 2012 registered and two of the three carry Supermacs wraps

The rest of the buses allocated to the 20 are SP's (regular coaches like the one in the pic above). These are actually the most comfortable bus on the route - the best seats with the most legroom. They are quite old at this stage, and many have big mileage on them and are in poor condition inside. They range from 2006 - 2008 in terms of age.

A very odd time there may be something older on the route, but this would generally just be covering a break down.

Sweet Chilli or Garlic? (Sorry couldn't resist)

Rarely do I see the double decker do that route. I've seen the new Expressway liveries a few times however.

    This too shall pass.

I stand to be corrected on this but having seen BE's double deckers they seem to be no different than the standard Dublin Bus with fancier seats and a slightly different body.

Not exactly ideal for a long journey unlike a "proper" coach I'd have thought.

Those are the ones used on the 103 and 105 services and other shuttle services between Naas and Newbridge.

The LD and LE type are proper coaches with reclining seats etc.

I stand corrected! :) It was the first type I was thinking of alright, although on a tangent - is there any reason BE didn't just get the AV/AX etc type for their local services as well? Would have made more sense from a cost effectiveness/part sharing/short-term replacements perspective I'd have thought

Possibly because they would not be as comfortable on longer journeys and there is a need to be able to move the city bus type between routes. Sometimes they travel as far as Navan or Naas which would be some journeys on a Dublin bus.
