Arrgh - kitchen floor

Ah, I just need to vent. It's been our desire to have a solid grey marmoleum floor in our small kitchen. The builder and kitchen fitter both said it's fine to install the marmoleum after the kitchen is installed. The fitter comes out and said he can't install it because it keeps cracking, it's too rigid to slip under the units and he can't sufficiently soften it, but maybe with another guy, they might be able to do it, but no guarantees. I'm just so annoyed about being so misinformed. Vinyl is horrible and the floor has long been set at a height to receive this flooring. Basically, I don't believe the installer feels confident they can fit it. You know when you really, really want something, your design rests on something like this and then it just can't happen? So annoyed.

I dunno, it's an eight unit kitchen (small), and still unfinished. Would it nearly be worth uninstalling and reinstalling the kitchen. I do have an email in which the installer recommends that I install the flooring after the kitchen is installed. The builder also advised the same. They contributed to this issue.

What has your architect suggested? Did s/he not spec the floor finish to go in first?

No architect. I specified the floor, researched it, and from day one, it's been this floor finish. I agreed the floor height, everything was accounted for to accommodate this floor finish. I confirmed and re-confirmed with the contractor throughout the project, staying in communication and providing ample opportunities for the correct advice, which I sought to the best of my ability. I said to the contractor: the floor should go in first; they advised me against that. Then this happened.
