Hi all, Im thinking of studying an MBA (Master of Business Administration). I have almost completed a Diploma of Business Management and intend to carry on from it. Id be interested in speaking to anyone who has studied an MBA to discuss the possible job opportunities and just find out some more general information about the degree.

    Thanks

The MBA degree will differ depending on the UNI that delivers it.

In general MBA are good, but very general and can be expensive. Also a lot of people now do them so it's harder to stand out. You could compare it to a specialized programme in business and see what suits you more.

What uni(s) where you looking at to do it in?

Thanks for your reply. Im currently looking at doing one here where Im working at the moment in Australia. Its with the Australian Institute of Business and its online. It will cost around $20k, (14k euro) plus some associated costs, texts books etc. According to the International Graduate Form rankings, this MBA is ranked 2nd in Australia and 13th in the world. Im not sure how much this means, but it sounds good. Where in Ireland are good uni`s to do an MBA, and do they offer them online? Online suits me as Im working also.

For online business rankings, have a look at - eduniversal-ranking.com
They do very good and fair rankings of UNIs all around the world.

I am not sure of any MBAs in Ireland that are only online off the top of my head, you could check google but!
I know the Irish businesspost ranked a number of MBAs last year, and UCD, TCD and DCU were in the top 3, with DCU been the best priced. But I don't think any of these are online. But thats not much help if you want to study in AUS.
Id say check out the list from eduniversal-ranking.com and see if you can find one that suits you. Most around the world will cover the same topics, so it's really about price and reputation.

    Thanks again,

I found out that there is only one institute in Ireland offering an MBA online. Its Warnborough College. Ive never heard of them until now. They have affiliations with one of the Oxford universities.

Just a few things that have been brought to my attention since I started researching this topic, Anyone with any views on these, Id appreciate you comments or thoughts.

Firstly, Is it better to specialise in a particular field rather than do an MBA, which is pretty broad?

Secondly, Ive heard that an MBA is as much about networking as learning and that you cant do this as much while doing it online. Surly what you learn has to be the main point of doing it?

Well after some further research on Warnborough College, Ive found out some rather worrying info on them. The Irish Independent carried a story about them in 2008. They said that they provide `a virtually worthless degree`, and are not accredited by any recognised bodies. Other stories tell of monies owed for lease of properties and cases taken against them for claiming affiliation to Oxford University.

Long story short, Ill be keeping well clear!!

I can't help but feel that something doesn't seem right about the ranking of the Australian Institute of Business.
For a start they're less than a third of the price to attend Melbourne Business School or the Australian School of Business.
Like the old saying goes: If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

After a quick mba ranking search, I couldn't find them mentioned on the following sites.
    MBAguide.com.au
    http://rankings.ft.com/businessschoolrankings/global-mba-ranking-2014
    http://www.mba50.com/mba50-com-premiership-2014-asia-pacific-b-school-ranking-of-rankings/

That been said, the topic has been covered before on other forums.

It would be nice to be able to do a MBA at that price and in a year. But I think one of the main benefits people achieve on an MBA course, is the connections they make with their peers and classmates. This, in my opinion is where distance learning would be disadvantaged.
