Aerlingus carry-on bag

Heading to Newcastle in 3 weeks, flying Aerlingus. I thought it would be fine with bringing carry on bag (55x40x25), but now I see that the flight is listed as regional, and therefore the luggage allowance is less than other aerlingus flights (48x33x20). From people experiences, are Aerlingus very strict with exact sizes?

they don't typically measure but i'd say it's more likely to be an issue if the bag doesn't fit in the smaller bins on the ATR aircraft.

It's because of the smaller overhead bins, I wouldn't turn up with a regular full size wheelie that you can carry onto an Airbus, it's very unlikely they'll let you take it onboard.

I've gotten away with bringing a normal size bag on but it was squishable, they do have a look though. They might put it in the hold for you for free at the gate if it's busy (they did announce on two recent flights that they would put bags in the hold for free at the boarding gate).

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll just have to go with a checked in bag. Thanks again.

The bins and under the seat in front of you is much smaller on regional flights than on regular Aer Lingus flights. Your bag is quite a lot bigger and would be very unlikely to fit in the hand luggage section on the plane. I used to fly with Aer Lingus regional quite a bit and often saw people at the gate being charged for putting the bag in the hold when the bag was outside the hand luggage limit.

I flew regional to Bristol earlier in the year. They did have the smaller overhead bins but they also had the bigger normal sized ones. For peace of mind I just shelled out the extra & put my bag in the hold. I did notice though that people were bringing on normal sized carry ons & nothing was said. I'd just book your bag on to be safe!

I think you're mistaken there. On the regional flights the bins over the wings are even smaller so you might have jumped to the conclusion that the regular bins on that plane are the same size as the bins on the Airbus fleet, they are not.

Maybe that was it! I had definitely seen the two sizes so thought the bigger bins were the same size as normal as the smaller ones seemed to be so small!
