    I'm considering a 2012 Volvo S60 2.0 D3 163 bhp manual as an alternative to the usual BMW/Audi/Merc.

What are they like to live with?

Great cars imo. Have you read reviews online or youtube reviews?

    My mother has had 3 D5 S60s, 03, 07 and 11. Getting a 4th next year.

She loves the car, its extremely comfortable, extremely safe, plenty of room for luggage in the boot, kids in the back.(I'm 6'0 and fit in the back in comfort) There's plenty of power and torque in the D5 engine and it does about 650km on a full tank.

We aren't familar with the D3 engine, but personally i'd suggest an autobox for the S60, it's quite a large car and the autobox is very smooth imo.

The D5 is a very reliable unit too, the 3 cars have done around 600-700k combined and barely any issues to speak of other then standard servicing.

I'd definitely take one of those for a test drive as well as a D3 model.

650km on a full tank is terrible.

That D3 engine is a bored down version of the D5, very good, reliable engine that has plenty of power, it feels more powerful that the 163bhp suggests, lots of torque through the gears too.

That would be city driving. Considerably more on the motorway(can't remember how many, been a while since I drove ours). 45mpg is easily done anyway.

Make sure it is either the R-Design, SE with leather or SE Lux model. The basic ES model interior is not that inspiring.
