There's a lot of Documentaries there, and not much Drama. 'Charlie' has changed names a few times but it'll be good to see it on air at last. God only knows why they have resurrected Joe Duffy's Spirit Level after four years - probably to keep Joe Duffy happy. Some interesting documentaries and a lot of the Usual Suspects returning. Nothing particularly original or ground-breaking.

Charlie is about the best of a largely bad lot!

It's a bit light on anything that might actually bring a smile to your face, and I'm including the likes of Mrs Brown and The LLS in that list.

Could do with a pop quiz, presented by Larry Gogan :)

    They could call it...'Pop Quiz'.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,444 ✭✭✭✭Skid X

It seems to be extremely light on Drama. Only one new series, a BAI funded three parter.

I know Drama is expensive, but it's a shame RTE aren't doing a bit more. It's not a good time to be an Actor looking for TV work.

No sign of Masterchef unfortunately? Was it not doing well?

No sign of Masterchef unfortunately? Was it not doing well?
TV star Nick Munier said he was left in the dark about RTE's MasterChef Ireland being taken off the menu.

The show he fronted with top chef Dylan McGrath has been axed by the national broadcaster ahead of the launch of its autumn/winter season schedule.

And restaurateur Nick revealed how he had not been told the show wasn't being served up for another season.

"I didn't know it wasn't returning," he said. "I was just told it was looking for a title sponsor."

It seems odd that they couldn't get a sponsor, maybe there's a bit more to the story.

The documentary side of RTE One looks quite strong for this season.

Although the lack of Drama is a disappointment for a lot of viewers apart from one that will be enticing to many viewers by the showing a major crony in Irish Politics from years gone by.

I reckon for Drama alone "Charlie" is to be a major hit for RTE this year.

Is there information on any new or returning imported shows from the US or UK ? I love all the late night and early hours police series like Scott & Bailey, Whitechapel, NYPD Blue and am wondering if any of them might be coming back

They'll prob just continue until the run out of the series. RTÉ Two is going to have a relaunch in Sept so most of the retuning shows US/UK shows will be announced then.

The documentaries sound mostly interesting and the the programmes that are (strangely) listed under 'Religious' but seem to be about death not religion - these will be interesting as well. I say this now, I won't get to watch half of them but I'll be making sure to see Love/Hate at the very least.

Imelda May Show- lots of "I'm delghted for yis". I like the woman but think it was live last time and really badly done

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 829 ✭✭✭smellmepower

Probation and the women's prison documentary's could be decent, good to see Firefighters got another run too.Wouldn't be arsed with anything else featuring the same old faces though.

The Fall was okay, but I thought that was more a BBC NI production than RTE?

The Fall is part of the BBC's aim to have "nationwide" programming from the regions. It is part funded by IFB/BSÉ and RTÉ.

Another programme called "The [someone] Show"...

I don't see anything wrong whatsoever with "Imelda May Presents..." or "Live With Imelda". ;)

In Rachel Allen: All Things Sweet, Rachel conjures up everything from cakes for elevenses to perfect treats for afternoon tea, children’s cakes and dinner party centre pieces.

It's been ten years now since Rachel's first series, and they must be almost out of titles. ;)

Won't be long, either, before the words they can put after "Kitchen Hero" start to dry up. :D;)

Wish they'd quietly retire Gay Byrne and Joe Duffy. Would You Believe wasn't afraid to ask questions and able to explore issue with out condensation.

A lot of good interesting stuff coming up - and I like that there is plenty of home produced programmes. Now if they could just give us some good films - for us rural dinosaurs who cant get Netflix:o.

Have to say that RTÉ, TV3 and TG4 all have a better selection of Films than Netfilx, your not missing out on much.

So the folks at Montrose have scraped up some money to relaunch their second channel.

Have they scraped up enough to change the idents as well? After ten years, it's surely time to leave the world of green rooms...

Still my favourite RTE2/Network 2 idents, however, are the "Earth, Wind, Fire and Water" ones from 1995-7:

Ballymaloe legend Darina Allen teams up with her brother and co-founder of the famous cookery school, Rory O’Connell, for this Christmas Special.

So she's teaming up with her brother now.... What about Tim? In fact, I think it would be far more interesting if they made a reality movie to see if they could find Ireland most elusive chef, Tim Allen... They could call it "The Search For The Sugar Man"..

Well, obviously - two years was not enough time to extract the full value of those idents.

Alas, they had to decide - and rather suddenly - that N2 should be a mainly "yoof" channel.

Which, 17 years and one name change later, it still is - and probably more so than ever before.

Some good stuff here for sure. Obviously Love/Hate. Can't wait to get some new Nidge and Fran material. Season 5 should be excellent. Then, many of the cast of Love/Hate exchange one set of gangsters for another with Charlie: John Boy turns into Haughey and Nidge into PJ Mara. I can't help think this will have the feel of Love/Hate season 2. Should be a good one too.

Lots of cookery programmes inevitably and Tubridy is back for the laugh. The Imelda May Show could be a good concept too and I'm sure she's as good a presenter as any of them and better than a lot of them (Tubridy?).

I never got around to seeing The Fall but heard it was good. Might catch up with the first series and then be ready for the second.
