I have a laptop with an 13 330m, and another arriving soon with an i5 540m. Would I be correct in believing that both would take the i7 620m? Or just the one with the 540?

They seem mostly compatible apart from the 330 doesnt have TurboBoost and has a lower max graphics frequency

Totally depends on the motherboard and bios.

If they're commercial laptops it'll only support the CPUs they offer it with.

Not entirely true- I've upgraded more Dells, Lenovos and Acers with Engineering samples- than I care to think about. Thankyou, Intel......
