Link to a golden time of movies and proper, healthy-looking stunning women

The black and white doesn't do her justice in fairness.

A voice of pure gravel, the face of an angel, and by all accounts the sense of humour and vocabulary of a drunken sailor. She never looked like a weakling or a pushover, like so many leading ladies of the time did.

I love to Have and Have Not.
At the funeral for her husband, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall put a whistle in his coffin. It was a reference to the famous line she says to him in their first film together To Have and Have Not (1944): "You know how to whistle, don't you? You just put your lips together and blow.".

A woman who stood out amongst the other stars of the era.

Used to watch old black and white movies with my Dad and she just lit up the scenes she was in. Perfect woman and, yes, that voice....

She supposedly came up with the Rat Pack name. Bogie and a group of his actor friends from NY including Frank Sinatra regularly socialised and drank heavily together, she would refer to them as the Rat Pack.

    RIP Lauren Bacall
Have never seen her black & white films I enjoyed her performance on the
sopranos when Chris robbed her celebrity goodie bag she was a tough lady
who taught Humphrey Bogart how to whistle.

As far as I know the Rat Pack she christened was the original crew - including Bogie, David Niven and Errol Flynn. Sinatra was in there too somewhere.

Taking a song lyric from her generation:
"...and when the night is new,

I'll be looking at the moon,

    But I'll be seeing you."

    Sleep well Lauren Bacall :)

She could arch her brow and smoke like no one else.

This line in the Guardian made me give a Bogart chuckle:
In old age, Bacall raged against what she saw as the mediocrity of contemporary Hollywood, as represented by everything from the career of Tom Cruise to the Twilight movies that her granddaughter dragged her to see. “She said it was the greatest vampire film ever made,” Bacall recalled. “After the film was over, I wanted to smack her across the head with my shoe.”
