Finding exact car model

Ok so I'm trying to sort out my insurance at the minute. Any other time I got insurance, I just put in the reg and used the model it threw out, without giving it too much thought.

My car is a VW Bora and the registration cert simply says VW Bora 1.9tdi 100hp. However, Liberty Insurance have no option for just that; it has to be either S, SE, Highline, Comfortline, etc. How do I find out which one exactly it is? Liberty's system is a bit messy as when I put the reg in to theirs, it says it's 130 bhp which it isn't. And when I said that to them they were very insistent that I find out the exact model or the policy could be voided in the event of an accident.

    Any ideas?

If you stick your reg in here does it give you any more info?

S, SE, Highline, Comfortline etc. are just trim levels, they should have no effect on the insurance rating. Ask to speak to a supervisor and quote the power rating (bhp) from the registration cert. If your car was imported from the UK, the exact model may not be in their database.

I had this problem with a 2007 Golf GT, the registration number threw up 140 bhp whereas my model was 170 bhp - both models were 1,400 c.c. so it was an error when the person in Shannon entered my original details. I asked the people in Axa to correct it which they did.

Tried that but it just says it's a 100hp Bora and asks me to pick the specific model.

Yes I said to the one I was talking to that it shouldn't matter given they know the model and the power, but she was quite insistent... There are differences of up to €30 or €40 on the Liberty quote between the various model types for some reason...

It wasn't imported, and various other insurance companies I checked it on have it as a slightly different model, e.g. Chill have it as Comfortline, Axa have it as SE PD, etc. Liberty was the only one who had the hp wrong. It doesn't matter anyway as I can update the exact model type myself to correct this, but it still doesn't mean I have the exact model correct.

Can you post a picture of the interior? It'll help identify the model. Also was it an import at any stage?

Don't have it with me this evening, but can take a few pics tomorrow if I still amn't sorted.

Not an import I think as the log book has the place it was first delivered being a garage in Galway.

No worries, I'd post an image of the interior trim as some is specific to certain models such as trendline, comfortline and highline.

Check the sticker in the boot, it will have base, comf, high etc on it.

Base is baseline or uk s

Comf is comfort line or uk se

    High is highline

Under the carpet normally to the left of the spare wheel.

White square sticker with the chassis number & option codes
